Recently following the release of December earnings for New Jersey casinos, the Casino Association of New Jersey (CANJ) provided detailed information on upcoming projects. It’s a new year, and 2023 promises to be big for the Garden State’s gambling industry. Casinos are ready to ramp up their experiences, offering guests even more than ever before.

Big Investments Are Coming to Atlantic City

President of CANJ Mark Giannantonio recently commented that the casino industry continues to invest hundreds of millions in Atlantic City and the local community via economic development projects. State and local officials are on board with these investments, seeing the plans as a way to bring more revenues to the region.

NJ Casinos have big plans for 2023, with all major properties ready for some type of enhancement. The biggest investment seems to be coming from Caesars Entertainment. The casino operator will spend a total of $400 million with a capital investment program that includes Tropicana, Caesars, and Harrah’s of Atlantic City. The casinos will add new restaurants, entertainment, and hotel rooms.

Bally has plans to spend over $100 million on renovations in Atlantic City that will include new guest rooms, a revitalized lobby and restaurants. A rotating bar is in the plans plus a new gaming product. The Borgata doesn’t seem to have any big spending plans as they made upgrades last year but do have a scheduled 20th anniversary celebration coming in 2023.

Hard Rock is focusing on entertainment and plans on spending $30 million to add live events to its property. While Borgata celebrates 20 years this year, the Resorts Casino Hotel is plannings its 45th anniversary for Memorial Day Weekend.

Golden Nugget will be spending an undisclosed amount on remodeling its interior, with plans to upgrade hotel rooms and suites. Infrastructure improvements are also on the table for back-of-house operations. Ocean Casino rounds out the list with a $15 million investment plan to redesign seven hotel floors.

Continuing to Invest and See Economic Gains

According to CANJ, the casinos of Atlantic City have invested over $1 billion in total within the past few years. The money was used to create more employment opportunities, bring in visitors, and create attractions that are considered in a league of their own.

Right now, the industry is facing strong economic growth, but that could easily change. CANJ President Giannantonio feels that the groups ongoing partnership with Atlantic City and state officials will help to spur further economic growth for the city to achieve long-term success.

Changes are also being made to bring in more businesspeople and families. The Showboat will open a new water park this summer that is sure to bring in more families to the boardwalk. The water park will be home to ziplines, water slides, a lazy river, wave pool, and many other attractions.

Atlantic City officials recently rebranded the city’s marketing strategy to “Visit Atlantic City” which is targeted to businesses. The goal is to bring more meetings and conventions to the area. A new website was created and a marketing push realized to see more companies setting events in AC which will bring more overnight stays to the region as well as spending.

Atlantic City casino operators are looking forward to 2023 and are expected to continue efforts to evolve gaming and non-gaming amenities. The goal is to create a competitive customer experience that will have consumers choosing to visit Atlantic City rather than other destinations across the United States. Operators plan to be aggressive and think outside the box when bringing in new elements and upgrading existing guest rooms, dining, and gaming services.

We shall see in the coming months how the changes are receive d and if the upgrades and renovations pay off for each operator in Atlantic City.
